Total running time: 120 min

Show cinema on map

This annual competition and showcase makes up one of TKFF’s key initiatives in nurturing the prospect of Korean cinema by featuring emerging filmmakers from Korea, or filmmakers of Korean-inspired works. Out of 220 submissions from Korea and internationally, the festival’s largest amount of entries to date, seven films were selected by TKFF 2016 to present this year.

The films in this showcase are eligible for two awards, which will be presented at the Awards Ceremony preceding the Closing Night Feature Presentation on June 24. Two films will be selected for the following: the Best Korean Short Award, and the TKFF Audience Choice Award, to be granted to the film most favored by the attending audience. As award recognition is vital for the career of any emerging filmmaker, we encourage all audience members to fill out the ballots following this screening.

TKFF Awards
- Best Korean Short Award (to be given to the film most favored by our panel of judges)
- TKFF Audience Choice Award (to be given to the film most favored by that evening’s audience)

Programmer’s Note

This year’s Korean Shorts Competition offers more than just a collection of seven fantastic short films – it offers a look into passionate, zany, poignant life stories. Particularly notable is the presence of children and their imaginative point of view. The family searching for itself as a unit is also worthy of attention. Included in this program are “CHICKEN OF WUZUH”, which screened at Busan International Film Festival and Seoul Independent Film Festival; “LATE SUMMER”, which was awarded at Seoul International Youth Film Festival; and “PREY”, which won awards in Sapporo, Moscow, and Hong Kong. - Jenny Lee
